How do you maintain paint protection film?

May 27, 2022

Installing paint protection film may be the solution for you to protect your car’s paintwork from road hazards while maintaining its factory appearance. Perhaps you've been wondering how to care for your paint protection film, or you're curious about the best way to keep it in good shape? It's critical to take good care of your vehicle, and in this article, Legendary Auto Salon will share some different ways to do so.

Definition of paint protection film (PPF)

Paint Protection Film (PPF), often known as clear bra, is a transparent, flexible polyurethane film. It has a specifically developed adhesive on the back that safely sticks to your automobile's surface. PPF can be placed over an existing paint or vinyl cover to protect it from challenging driving conditions. Heat triggering self healing characteristics are common in paint protection films, which means scratches self heal when heat is applied.

Tips for maintaining PPF

After installation, do not touch the film.

The protective film may take a few days to settle and cure (at least 48 hours). For the first week after installation, try not to touch the film. Don't be concerned if any bubbles appear at this time. Once the curing is finished, they should go away.

After installation, do not wash the film.

Do not wash your automobile while the film is settling and curing. If possible, don’t drive the car for a couple of days after installation. If you really must, be careful not to put too much pressure on the coating and try not to get it wet.

Cleaning Methods

It helps to avoid commercial car washes once you've installed the film. Yes, giving them up won't be easy, but it is necessary if you want the coating to last longer.

Avoid using pressure washers too close to the film's edges, as this isn’t good for the coating either. Soak difficult to clean areas with soapy water for several minutes.

Never use brushes, terry cloths, or paper materials to clean your covered car. They will dull or harm the surface in some circumstances. Remove any dead bugs or dirt droppings right away. They may leave stains on the film that are irreversible. Pay careful attention to the edges of the film, where dirt accumulates. Abrasive materials should never be used to clean your car.

Buy quality cleaning products.

Avoid using low quality car wash soap. It could have strong chemicals in it that harm the film on your car. Be sure to select shampoos that are pH-neutral. Make sure the microfiber mitt you get is made exclusively for automobile care.

Is paint protection worth it?

Paint protection is a fantastic, low maintenance way to keep your car’s exterior looking beautiful. Your car will be simpler to clean, and you won't have to worry about minor damage or polishing anymore. Paint protection is definitely worthwhile if you park it outside overnight near trees or overhead lines where birds roost (for obvious reasons!)
